IEC60947-1 Updated

IEC (http://www.iec.ch) have just released the fifth edition of IEC60947-1 (2007-06) “Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear – Part 1: General rules”. This is a substantial document 25mm thick!

Historically the main UK standard for assemblies BS EN 60439-1 has been largely based on this IEC version. Currently the IEC is working on a major revision of the assembly standard, which will become BS EN 61439-1, but is not due for release until 2009.

Update January 2009 - IEC have now released IEC 61439-1 and IEC 61439-2, they can be purchased from the above IEC link. BSI are working on the UK version.

Update January 2010 - BS EN 61439-1 and BS EN 61439-2 have just been published by BSI. The existing standard BS EN 60439-1 will be withdrawn on 1st November 2014, but remains current until then.
